To build an accessible, pleasant and energy-efficient living environment for the elderly. The aim is to reach a zero-energy level and ensure consistently high-quality living conditions in the building.
Onnelanpolku is the first large sheltered housing project with an energy solution based on diverse use of renewable energy, very good energy efficiency and effective utilisation of free and surplus energy. Electricity consumption is minimised through the use of energy-efficient ventilation equipment and pumps, efficient LED lights, and lighting for common areas based on presence/absence detectors and regulation depending on the amount of natural light. Onnelanpolku has been linked to Caverion’s Remote Centre.
Although the service concept was challenging, high-quality design and careful execution made implementation possible. Good structural design has enabled a small external wall surface area and a cosy atrium courtyard, which serves as an “energy accumulator” for the building.
Construction began in 2013, and the building was taken into use in 2014.
